Music
Our music curriculum is based on state and national standards and includes singing, listening, reading, moving and creating music. Whenever possible, the music curriculum reinforces and augments lessons learned in the classroom. Students learn through singing, including proper vocal technique appropriate for young students, listening to many types of music, playing rhythm instruments, choir chimes and Orff instruments, and movement activities. Music instruction begins with 4-Year-Old Preschool students who receive music instruction by the specialist for 20 minutes per week. All other grades from Kindergarten through 6th Grade receive music instruction for two 30-minute periods per week. Along with the regular curriculum, students learn music for their weekly Mass as well as for special religious celebrations throughout the year. Students who wish to participate also have the opportunity to be in the Academy Choir which currently meets one day per week. There is also an annual Christmas program involving all students in Grades 1st through 6th; Kindergarten and Preschool have their own special programs.
