Music

Through music, we can introduce children to the richness and diversity of the human family and to the myriad rhythms of life.”

           – Daniel A. Carp, Eastman Kodak Company Chairman and CEO.

Over the years, scientific evidence has proven that an education in the arts makes better math, reading and science students. Although many public schools have cut music programs due to funding issues, Holy Family believes that music is important in the overall academic and social development of our students.

Our music curriculum includes the following:

  • singing, including proper vocal technique,
  • listening to many different types of music,
  • playing rhythm instruments,
  • reading music, and
  • movement activities.

Whenever possible, the music curriculum reinforces and augments lessons learned in the classroom.

Music instruction begins with 4-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten students who receive music instruction by the specialist for 20 minutes per week. All other grades receive music instruction for two 30-minute periods per week.

Along with the regular curriculum, students learn music for their weekly Mass as well as for special religious celebrations throughout the year, including an annual Christmas program.

Students also have the opportunity to be in the Academy Choir which currently meets one day per week.
