Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship
The Illinois “Invest in Kids Act” provides scholarship opportunities to nonpublic schools for qualifying families with students in grades K-12. The scholarships offered through this program are needs-based and could cover up to 100 percent of tuition and eligible fees and are needs-based. See the Empower Illinois website to determine if your family qualifies.
Please note that all HFCA families interested in tuition assistance, must first determine if their family is eligible for a Tax Credit Scholarship before applying for tuition assistance through HFCA/FACTS. In many instances families will be awarded more assistance through the Tax Credit Scholarship program than through HFCA's tuition assistance.
Applications for 2020-2021 tax credit scholarships will open on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Prior scholarship recipients or those who have been on a waitlist must reapply annually. The application is a two-step process explained here by Empower Illinois.
- Step One, requires families to complete a reservation form and determines the priority in which you will be allowed to complete the actual scholarship application process discussed in Step Two, below. The reservation form will should be submitted at 7:00PM on January 15, 2020. Families will have access to the form beginning at 6:30PM. The reservation consists of two pages. Page one requests basic information such as parent name, student name, and contact information. Page two will request families to review this information entered on Page one and click 'submit'. After submitting the form you will receive a timestamp indicating your first-come, first-served priority. Please note that the time stamp does not guarantee an award, but rather indicates the order your family will be allowed to complete the actual application, discussed in Step Two, below.
- StepTwo is the actual application process. On January 17, 2020 families who have completed Step One will be notified by email when the application process opens. Families are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible, but should do so before January 27 to ensure your best chance at receiving a scholarship. Please see the Archdiocese website for information that will be required to complete the application.
