This is one of my favorite sections and one that is especially relevant to what we will start next year with so please be sure to access all resources and complete the work using your text. Start by reading pp 598-605. Answer the questions on the doc attached. View the videos below to also enhance your learning. Two are music videos but the last reviews the info from the text well.

On Monday, I will post a video of myself talking through this section so you can review it before turning in the work. This is our last assignment!!! Don't rush as it is not due until Monday and do your best!

First, please watch the attached review videos for the section. It is essential that you have some explanation of the section to aid in your understanding. There are four but each is only five minutes or less. I am sorry that Screencastify will only allow me to record five minutes at a time so have patience as I get cut off. (I also included the Henry song again for fun :o) Next, complete the work from Thursday and submit on Thursday's posting.

Finally, watch the short video on how to do a digital breakout. We are going to try it tomorrow on zoom! I will see you all there for OUR LAST CLASS!!!!!!!

Using the two music videos below and the text, complete the attached sheet with terms about the Renaissance.

Today and Wednesday you are investigating the first crusade. A crusade is a holy war for Christians, similar to a jihad for Muslims. You will be looking at primary sources from both sides of the conflict and attempting to decipher what really happened during the first crusade. Look at the PowerPoint first then follow the directions of the reading guide.

This assignment would normally take one to one and a half class periods. I am giving you until end of day Wednesday to complete it so take your time, break it into chunks and be sure to complete it thoughtfully.

Suggested timeline: Monday-Look at ppt, complete reading guide for doc A and B; (Tuesday Zoom); Wednesday- complete reading guide doc C, write final response, then view slide C to see if you are correct.

Once completed, please submit to Monday's posting.

The video below is enhanced by Edpuzzle, an online tool for adding questions to videos on You Tube. Watch the attached video and complete the multiple choice questions along the way. Notice you may re-watch sections if you are unsure of the answer. All answers will be saved and recorded, and there is no need for you to submit separately on Google Classroom. Let me know what you think of this online learning tool. I am just starting to use it and would be happy to use/create other videos to support our learning. Please note, you have three days to complete this so you can do it in parts. Just know that you need to complete the video in order, but may stop and come back to it if you need a break.

Using the packet instructions below, create your own Coat of Arms or crest. Read through the info carefully and choose symbols and colors that represent you and/or your family. You MUST use the official symbols provided or those found on websites. You MAY NOT use everyday symbols like smiley faces or sports equipment (soccer balls, tennis racket etc.) These are to mimic a real Medieval Coat of Arms. I attached a picture of a sample.

Basic requirements:
1. Crest must have your LAST name printed largely at the top.
2. Crest must be cut into one of the two shapes given.
3. Crest must be at least the size of a regular piece of paper (8.5 x 11)
4. Crest must contain at least 4 symbols and two colors including symbolic lines. These symbols are to be hand drawn and colored to the best of your ability (you can trace, just not print, cut and paste). Take your time and do thoughtful work!

Finally, you must write an essay describing your crest and explaining why you used the symbols, lines, colors, shapes, beasts (etc) that you did. Essay must be typed in Google docs using proper conventions.

If you have any trouble acquiring materials like paper, markers, glue- please let me know. I will accept a picture of most anything that follows the requirements. I do not expect anyone to leave the house to shop for materials.

This is the only assignment for this week! Do a little bit each day and don't forget the essay portion. Our Zoom call tomorrow will be to answer questions about this project. See you then!

Finally, create a way to reach others to encourage them to participate in the census. You may create a meme using the Google draw template below, an online poster using Canva (sign up required but DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING), a "commercial" on YouTube (keep it private and share with me) or any other creative way to encourage people to participate in the census. Have fun but remember, we want to ENCOURAGE others to participate, not make fun of the process. I will post some of these on classroom for others to see.

Read pp 540-541 of the text. Open the attached chart pdf in Lumin so you can add text OR print a copy and write in information. Using information found in the text, complete the attached cause and effect chart. **Hint: the "causes" are the different land features.

Explore the website 2020census.gov through the link below. Take a moment to look at the types of questions asked in the census. Complete Activity SIDE D section "E. Practice Survey" from the packet.

In the packet from Monday, complete Activity sides A and B only (skip Activity side C with the primary source). To clarify- each "side" has multiple sections. Complete "Misinformation Fake Out", "The Census and You" and "Hard to Count". Please scan or take a picture to send to me for grading.

Census Day 2020 is Wednesday April 1st, so this week we will be completing activities to help us better understand the Census, how it works and why we need it. For today, do ONLY what is given here. We will work on other pages in other ways throughout the week. Please read pages 1 and 2, "Get Counted". Highlight or underline any key information. You may wish to print the packet as I was unable to create an editable copy through Google docs. Next, complete the vocabulary foldable on page 3. We will review these terms together during a Zoom call on Tuesday.

Review study guide, make flashcards for each dynasty and term that you may struggle with. Play all four Kahoots in preparation for test Wednesday. The four Kahoots have been combined in the link below. Send any questions you may have during school hours (9 AM- 3:30 PM)

Test structure will be 10 matching, 10 multiple choice, 1 short answer and 1 longer response. Short answer is about the invention of printing and longer response is about how the Mongols were able to build such a vast empire. Be sure to include detailed support for your ideas. You will need at least three or four examples for the Mongol question and two or three for the printing question.

In preparation for the unit test on China, attached is a copy of the study guide. Please remember, we have not covered all material yet. Start preparing for information found in 17.1 and 17.2 only, and complete info for 17.3 and 17.4 as we go.

Using at least one detail from each of the appropriate categories, explain whether you would rather be a Spartan or an Athenian in one detailed paragraph. You may use extra details if you want.
Make sure to have a topic and a closing sentence. Proofread your paragraph for errors in punctuation, capitalization and grammar.
Be ready to discuss your position with your classmates.
