Assignment

Hola Munchkins and Parents,

Today is Spanish and only a half day.  School finishes at 12:00pm. Since we don't have school tomorrow I am pretending today is FUN FRIDAY!

MORNING WORK:  Today is Thursday so do Thursday's work.  Mrs. Searle will send answers for you to correct.

READING: I sent you a fun story about Joey.  The focus here is "POINT OF VIEW."  In class we talked about being in a situation and all of us see it from our own "point of view."  EX:  You might feel this is fun being home, learning on a computer, and maybe even being in pj's all day even though you miss your friends.   Your parent's point of view is nervous because they are trying so hard to be a teacher and then get all their work done, when they are not teachers.  I tried to do a doctor's job when my girls were little, but I could only do little things like give cough drops and bandaids.  The DOCTOR had to take care of them.  My point of view is this is so exciting to be on a new adventure with you and how you are handling it.  It is fun to see all the creative activities you are doing at home, but I don't like teaching from a computer all day at all and I miss you very much.
When you are finished with that...you can read any book AT YOUR LEVEL. (no taking the easy way out munchkins!) for a half hour.

WRITING:  Today in your journal at the end of the day.  Write about your week.  How are you feeling?  How are you doing.  You will have this forever so don't forget to write about what was the "low" of the week, and what was the "high."  The more detail the better!!!!!!  Some of you are really being reflective learners about how this has been for you.

MATH:  Last night I sent a fun matching money game to you.  You can play this.  There is space to make up your own matching.  Challenge if you want.   Get a piece of paper and YOU make up more problems and add them to the game!

SCIENCE: Does Matter Matter?   YES!   Last night I sent a fun "cootie" game on solids, liquids and gases.  Color it, Yes you can use markers, put it together and play.  Maybe facetime a friend!!!!!

RELIGION:   Look at the Stations of the Cross Packet.  Read the first and second station and say the prayers.  Then color those stations on your wheel.  You can color Jesus (the top of the wheel) anytime you want.

I tried to find some fun things for you to do.  I hope you have a great day and I hope our 9am Zoom chat works out!
Love you little ones, and miss you lots!!!!!

Assignment

Good Morning to you, Good Morning to you, Good morning little munchkins, Good morning to you!  That was a song!!!!

Announcements :  Mrs. O'Brien at 8:45 on Holy Family Catholic Academy Facebook page

Mass at 9:00.  Last night I sent an email.  There is mass on Holy Family Parish Website and also Old St. Pat's.  After mass write a 5-7 sentences about what the readings were about and the homily Father gave on understanding them.

Reading:   Today we are taking a break from our packets and novels.  You can read ANY book you want.  It can be a book from home or on Epic.

*When you are finished write down the main characters.  What are their character traits?  Give an example from the book.
EX:  The Wild Robot.   He was very empathetic and caring.  He raised Brightbill the gosling as his child even though he wasn't a goose.  Risk taker-he learned to live in the wild happily among animals.  Funny.  He acted like the animals he met when he was a robot. (Parents this is from our read a loud.  They will understand.)
*Write the setting of your story.  Be specific.  In a house.  NOPE!  In the kitchen and the grocery store.
*Write the problem.  Why other problems did this cause?
*Write the solution.  Is this the solution you would pick?  Why or why not?  If you have a better one, you can write that also.
*Find 2 cause and effects in the story.  EX:   Cause: There is a virus causing people to get sick.  Efftect:  They closed school to clean and we are having school at home.

WRITING:  At the end of the day, write about your day.  I loved reading about your adventures!  Let's write above the red line and below the red line so you will have 2 sentences in one big line.  We don't need all those lines in second grade anymore.  Be sure to add detail to your sentences.  Many of you have and I feel like I spent the day with you!  That was great!

MATH: I was checking the math.  Due to losing my assignments and writing quickly before announcements I an see a couple of my kiddos need a gentle reminder.  The strategy that we learned in school was "the Magic 10."  When you have multiple numbers to add always look for a ten and there is no need for regrouping.  EX:  40 + 3+ 30 + 7 =. Looking at this problem remember we know that 7 + 3 =10 and 4+3=7 so 40 +30 =70 so 70 +10=80.  That is how the back page from math should have been done yesterday. Please go over this at some point if they just added the first to numbers, got a sum and then added the next two numbers and got a sum and then added the sums together.  Not all problems can be done the way above, but I taught them when adding multiple numbers always look for tens.
Today's assignment:  Play any math game you would like.  Do extra math 3 times.  Then you can play any game you would like.  Coins and Bills is a game we have at school.  I believe it is free.  They really liked making change.  Math Bingo is another one that they enjoy.

SCIENCE:  We do not have an IB lesson on Wednesday due to Art today.

ART:  See Mrs. Breen's activities.

That's it for today.  I hope I covered everything.

3 important messages!
PLEASE remember to email in the morning so I can send in attendance. The office would like this in the morning.  THANK YOU!
Please send their journals.  I like to respond and keep connected to my little ones.  I am glad to look at anything else.  I don't need to see morning work. That is taken care of by Mrs. Searle.
Last, but not least.  Keep contacting me with any questions or concerns, and I will do my best to help.  Again, this is new territory and we are only going to get through it together by helping each other.

God Bless all of you.  You were in my night time prayers!

Assignment

Dear Parents, I just spent 40 minutes typing this and it did send.  It won't let me retrieve.  UGH!  Here we go again!

Top of the mornin to you my lads and lassies!

Morning Work:  Tuesday.  Mrs. Searle will post answers later.

Word of the Day:  I know you don't have your notebooks, but just use a piece of paper and I will attach them in your notebooks later.  Your word for today is......................ECSTATIC.   I thought parents you would like this one since this is how you will feel when this is all over.  Please do not give them any clues.  They write the word on top of a sheet of paper and then guess what it means.  After lunch I will send an email with the definition, they write it, write a sentence using the word and draw a picture.

Reading:  Today we are reading about Pecos Bill and our skill is context clues.  Remember 5 -7 sentences with detail in any writing part.
Ramona:  Read Chapter 8 and answer questions
Flat Stanley and the Fire House:  Part 2 in your packet is your assignment for today.  This is NOT Mrs. Searle's Flat Stanley novel unit. She will send her work.

Math:  Today you are working on P. 8.  Highlight words that help you decide whether to add or subtract.  Don't forget extra math and any other math game.

Science:  Yesterday I enjoyed reading some of your solids, liquids and gas papers.  Remember to write on the back why you think there was more of one matter than another, and why did the least matter in your house not have a lot?  Today you are to read any book on Epic about matter and write 5 interesting facts.

Religion:  p. 46 and 47.  Think about a gift you gave someone.  When we give a gift we give part of ourselves by the time we spend choosing the gift, the effort of possibly making a gift, or saving money to buy a gift.  At mass we bring bread and wine to the table as gifts.  The priest then turns it into the gift of the Body and Blood of Christ.   When we show our love and care (learner profile word tell them) for others we are giving them gifts.   Fill out p. 47.  Color the pretty packages.  Do not color over the words you wrote.

Writing:  I sent an email.

Today is Spanish and Gym.  I am not sure if Spanish put anything up due to them being from a company we hired from.  Gym for sure has assignments.

Have a great day Eagles!
