Four-year-old preschool

The four-year-old programs further develop the child’s place in the community. Reading and math skills are introduced in an engaging and enjoyable manner through whole group, small group, and center opportunities. Children learn such skills as sorting, patterns, attributes, numbers, comparison, letters, and simple phonics. Jolly Phonics, a developmental phonics program, is incorporated into daily activities.

As an International Baccalaureate World School (IB), HFCA uses IB's Primary Years Programme to further improve the quality of our curriculum, and ensure that we consistently focus on the knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and actions that young students need to develop to be productive and successful in the 21st century. Using inquiry-based learning, we employ a transdisciplinary approach to build on children’s natural curiosity as they explore authentic issues in their world.

Students also attend “in-house field trips” exploring “hands-on/mind-on” STEM topics. All pre-kindergarten classes include physical education, music, Spanish language instruction, and weekly visits to the library.

Our full-day options extend learning time and include a wide range of activities to reinforce and enrich morning learning. Small group opportunities and time for one-to-one instruction allow the teachers to employ different strategies for skill development.

This program is offered in a 3-day morning (MWF), 5-day morning (M-F), 3-day full-day (MWF), or a 5-day full-day. Morning classes meet* from 9:00-11:30 and full-day classes meet* from 8:45-3:00.

*Class times are approximate. Drop-off and pick-up instructions will vary by classroom to manage arrival and dismissal safely and efficiently for our students.

Before and after care options are available.
